Lana Turner & Johnny Stompanato
36 year old Turner met Stompanato in 1957, when he was working as a bodyguard and enforcer for famed Los Angeles gangster Mickey Cohen. Their relationship was characterized by many violent arguments, physical abuse and repeated reconciliations.
On the evening of April 4, 1958, a, Turner and Stompanato began arguing heatedly in Turner’s house in Beverly Hills. Fearing her mother’s life was in danger, Turner’s fourteen-year-old daughter, Cheryl Crane, grabbed a kitchen knife and ran to her mother’s defense. The teenager reportedly stabbed Stompanato to death, it was later determined a justifiable homicide.
