Marilyn Monroe & Yves Montand with her then husband Arthur Miller
Montand had been personally recommended for “Let’s Make Love” by Miller after Miller saw him acting in a foreign movie version of his play The Crucible called Les Sorcières de Salem. Montand always expressed regret over the affair as he considered Miller a “good friend”.
Yves Montand watches Marilyn Monroe on the set of their poorly received 1960 musical comedy “Let’s Make Love.” During the shoot, the two stars, both married to others, would have a brief affair.
In 1962, concerned about her health and seemingly unhealthy relationships, DiMaggio asked Monroe to remarry him. Pictured: An engraved compact he once gave her.
Years after their divorce Monroe & DiMaggio became close friends again and attended the 1961 Yankees’ opening game. That year Oscar host Bob Hope dedicates the Best Song nominee “Second Time Around” to them.
